Amazon Kindle for iPad hits App Store

Amazon have announced that the Kindle for iPad app has made it through Apple's approval process and is now in the App Store. The free app automatically syncs with ebooks bought through Amazon's service, and synchronizes your reading position with other Kindle hardware and software.

To be honest, we'd been a little curious as to whether Apple would approve the iPad Kindle app. The Cupertino obviously have their own ereader platform now, in the shape of iBooks, and as we've seen on the iPhone and iPod touch, they're not particularly keen to approve applications that go up against their core software. One possible explanation is that iBooks is being billed as available for download through the App Store, rather than being a core iPad title, perhaps in an attempt by Apple to avoid any developers pointing to the competing software as justification to allow third-party browsers and the like.

Like iBooks, Apple have added app-specific page brightness control, page-turn animations and the ability to change fonts and text-size. Kindle for iPad is a free download and is in the App Store now.

I am having a problem wit the app setup and wonder if they are really finished.

When you run the app you have a chance to login if you have an account.

As a Kindle user I do..... And so I login and decide I want to check my gift card balance.
I use the gift cards to refill my Amazon account much like folks use iTunes cards to fill iTunes accounts.

So I check the balance and it shows $0.00. I recheck via the Web and it shows my modest $17 balance. So now I sit with 2 screens side by side, both logged in as me, both showing diferent balances.

I am going to give it a day to settle and check again, but before I logged out I checked my list of devices for eBook delivery. Sure enough, my PC showed the Kindle and no iPad, while the iPad just showed itself and no Kindle.

Wow. I have an early adopted headach. More later.
