Kit should arrive tomorrow. Any additional ideas on what YOU want to see tested. My list is as follows.

Apitek Digital Camera - USB Connection

8GB SDHC card with photos, movies (AVIs) and some eBooks (PDF, TXT, etc)

Wester Digital 500GB USB MyBook drive (all sorts of files) - has its own external power supply.

2GB Compaq Flash Card from my Canon DSLR, vis a cheap USB card reader (it has multiple ports for different flash card types).

2GB USB Stick Type Flash Drive (several types)

20GB Passport External Hard Drive - This may be a fail as it uses USB power

A variety of USB printers ....just to see what happens

My 80GB ipod via its cable

And if the above doesn't blow up, my 3G iPhone via its USB cable

Any other suggestions????????????

Stay tuned over the weekend....likely Saturday night

Default Kit Documentaion

Ok folks...here it is in stages.

First, check out the picture section for some images under accessories. Here they are below...click to enlarge.

The box and its content are amazingly small.
CCK_Unboxing_1.jpg
CCK_Unboxing_2.jpg
CCK_Unboxing_3.JPG
CCK_Unboxing_4.jpg

The tiny booklet has some interesting, if brief functional descriptions.....I am quoting them below (all text taken from the Apple Documentation)

"The iPad Camera Connection kit includes two adapters; a Camera Connector for importing photos and videos from a USB camera or iPhone, and an SD Card Reader for importing photos and video from a memory card."

They say to trun the iPad off, then insert the adapter, then connect your device and (though they don't say it) turn back on the iPad. After that..."select the photos and videos that you want to import. See the iPad User Guide for details"

help.apple.com/ipad/mobile/interface and look under PHOTOS then under "Importing Photos from and iPhone or a Digital Camera"

Sure enough if to hop over to the iPad User Guide web link there is info there now....did I miss this before????? It suggests that the photo app with automatically launch.

As for the section in the CCK's tiny manual on Compatibility...
"The Camera Connector is compatible with USB cameras that support Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) or mass storage class devices"

"The SD Card Reader is compatible with Secure Digital (Standard SD and SDHC) memeory cards. Mini and Micro SD are supported when used with an adapter to fit the slot (adapter not included). MMC cards are also supported"

Interesting.....now on to some testing....next post soon....

First test....USB adapter connected to my iPhone via Apple cable.

iPad off, adapter inserted, USB cable inserted, iPhone plugged in and on.

The photo app automatically launded and the screen filled with a small view (like the ablbum view) of all of the pictures on my iPhone. On the top of the iPad screen a new tab labeled "Camera" appeared.

Tapping each causes a check mark to appear on each tapped photo to select it for import (a second tap un-selects it). After selecting a few photos I tapped the blue "Import" button on the top right of the screen.

I was given an option to import ALL or just the SELECTED photos. Tapping the SELECTED choice the iPad pulled the images and then asked if I wanted to delete those photos from the iPhone. Nice option if you wanted to empty the iPhone so you could take more pictures.

Two new albums appeared in the Photo app. One is "All Imports" and shows all the impages I had selected. The other is "Last Import" and reflects just the last thing you imported.

If you rig goes to sleep while you are otherwise occupied....waking up the iPad, reestablishes the connection.

more in a bit

Second test - 80GB iPod

Connected via Apple cable.

It started to display its Synch message then the iPad display showed "This device is not supported".

Third test - Western Digital 500GB drive - independently powered, USB cable

Basically the iPad ignored the device when connected.

Shoot.....
