Post Take the gloves off: what do you want on your iPad?

Over this last week, we had a familiar tone to a lot of our posts, both on the front page, and within the forums. Potential. No one can argue that, like the iPhone before it, the iPad has a lot going for it within the third-party development area. Not to mention that Apple still has a lot of pull in the software department, especially when it comes to future updates.

So this is the time to sound off. This will be an on going thread for the wants, desires, hopes and dreams of those out there who want the iPad, and hope to see something that they crave on it. Want a giant Apple TV remote, with awesome gesture control schemes? The possibilities really are endless.

So go ahead. Let us know. And who knows, maybe someone's watching that can make your dreams come true.

Let me start off then with the desire for the iPad to one day replace my MacBook air (even if it means under a different name). It doesn't need to have the computing horsepower of a MacBook or MacBook Pro ---- as long as I can use standard OSX apps to process videos on iMovie or edit images on iPhoto.

Editing photos and videos, in real-time, and with a touch-based interface with intuitive gestures would be the coolest thing ever. It would just be fun, and a great way to show off the iPad (or any future iteration).

I want the ability to highlight text in the books and take notes... both of which would be easily accessible... this will be one thing that will certainly sell me on the IPad.

I asked at the launch whether iPad iBooks had the capability to add notes etc and the answer was no. Hope they add it down the road.

Even something as a quick motion gesture to highlight a piece of text, and move it over to the Notepad application would be great. Especially for the students who will obviously be picking up the iPad for school.

i want to be able to bookmark key phrases that are highlighted by myself. Then transpose them into a separate document, whether it opens in Pages, or Notes, or just another page in eBooks.

for example if i am studying an eTextbook on my iPad i would like to highlight certain parts in orange (for example), and others in blue, etc,.

then i would like to have all of the colors listed across the top that i could click on. and when i clicked on it i would have a separate page open with all of the things i highlighted. this would be very helpful for students like myself who could have separate colors for separate quizzes, or chapters for studying the highlighted phrases that i felt would be on the test.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that highlighting text, even in just a textbook, should be more than a desire for Apple and third-party developers. It's almost a necessity, to be honest. If you want students to pick up the iPad, and replace their physical books where they can take notes and highlight text, then you need to be able to offer the same content, digitally.

With that being said, with ScrollMotion behind the textbooks coming to the iPad, I think we might not have to worry about this feature. As Vincent said, Apple isn't going to put highlighting text in their iBookstore or eBooks, but we could probably expect it from ScrollMotion and their textbooks.
